TELESCOPE AVAILABLE FOR CHECKOUT

Bradford Public Library is pleased to announce that we have a Telescope available for the community to checkout.  We have purchased a telescope through the Stillwater Stargazers Astronomy Club that our patrons can now take home with them to enjoy! This telescope has been specially altered to make it user friendly and less likely to break.  Those wishing to borrow the telescope will need to have a valid Bradford Public Library card, a current photo ID,  be at least 18 years of age, and will be required to sign a borrower’s agreement. Come in to see a copy of the entire  agreement.  Telescope can be checked out from Monday after 12:00 noon and returned by Thursday before noon, OR can be checked out Thursday after 12:00 noon and returned no later than Monday before noon. We anticipate many of our patrons wanting to use this awesome new service so be sure to come in to get your name on our reservation list. Patrons may reserve the telescope for a specific date if they wish for a special occasion or family gathering, or special night sky event.

Next time you stop by, be sure to take a look at the Telescope, it is currently on display next to the door you come into the library.

You could try these 8 things with the telescope:   1.  Jupiter – The King of the the Planets if relatively each to locate in the sky.

2.  The Moon – Lunda, our Moon – it’s big, bright and visible almost every night of the year

3.  Saturn – The second largest gas planet in out Solar System, Saturn in another each object to locate.

4.  Venus and Mars – Earth’s neighboring planets are favorite targets for amateur astronomers.

5.  Comets – At any given moment, there are several faint comets in the sky.

6.  Nebulae – Set your sights on the Great Orion Nebula, also know as M42.

7.  Galaxies – There are 4 types of galaxies:  spiral, lenticular, elliptical and irregular.

8.  Globular Clusters – Spherical collections of stars that orbit a galactic core.
