We will be offering a workshop every month full of STEAM activities. Each month we will have a different program geared to get you excited about Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math! Plans are to hold this program on the second Thursday of each month. from 10:00-11:00. Programs will be suitable for students in grades 1-8.

BPL offers a 4 fold approach to teaching young minds in these subject areas. We want to create an “ITCH” to learn. Getting your student IN the library is the first step. Step 2 is getting them to THINK. We don’t just tell your students how to solve a problem or perform an experiment, we let them use their own ideas and trial and error to get to a solution. Step three is using COMMON household items. We want your student to be able to replicate an activity at home without much expense. We will be raiding the recycling bin or pantry for much of our programs. Last is HANDS ON. We want your child to be activily involved in every step to make concepts exciting and relevant to them.

Our kick off will be on Thursday,  November 9 from 10:00-11:30. Come see how the Mayflower, Pilgrims and Turkeys can help you get excited about STEAM! Please call the library  at 448-2612 and ask for Stacie if you have questions about this exciting opportunity or to get signed up.

***UPDATE***Our first meeting was held on November 9 with 4 eager minds in attendance! We learned how a boat floats and built boats out of foil then tested them to see how many pilgrims (pennies) each would hold before sinking. We continued our Thanksgiving theme by having the children design and build a shelter for their pilgrim families. They needed to be rain-proof and wind resistant.   We wrapped up the morning by learning how to make a ” Turkey Transporter”….videos will hopefully be coming from them as they finish this project up at home!   We will be having a second activity on December 14 at 10:00. Pre-registration  is not required but is appreciated! Our December meeting will focus on a fun science related art project!
